HISTORY: After her study theatre design and audio-visual at the Rietveld Academy of Arts in Amsterdam (1985), Threes Anna became core member of the international theatre company Dogtroep. In 1990 she became the Artistic Director and lead the company for nine years. In this capacity she wrote and directed over 50 site-specific theatrical spectacles all across the globe. Performances were staged on the remains of the Berlin Wall, during the war in Belgrade, just after the first elections in South Africa, as well as in the snow at the Winter Olympics in France, in the slums of Uzbekistan and in the Royal Theatre Carré in Amsterdam. Her fascination with extreme situations and locations was roused during this period.
From one of the shows, Noordwesterwals, a spectacular performance in which 1.2 million liters of water formed the lead, she made a film adaptation.

In 1998 she began to develop her first film script, The Bird Can’t Fly, which was inspired by a search in South Africa. In 2006, after nine years of fighting for this project, her debut feature film with Barbara Hershey in the lead, was shot near Cape Town and won several international prices. Because realising this first feature took so long she began to write novels. Her literary debut was The Kiss of a Widow. Almost every two years a new novel was published. The novel Waiting For the Monsoon became a bestseller and was sold to Germany, Spain, Italy, Norway and Canada. Her last novel is Paradijsvogel. For all her works Threes did a lot of research because her stories always play in different countries in extreme and unfamiliar situations. She also writes columns, short stories and articles for magazines and newspapers and made several documentaries. Beside writing and directing she gives lectures about her work.

CONTACT
