Halfway the casting of ‘Silent City’. I’m on Maastricht/Aachen airport. The last three days we have been casting in Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Dusseldorf. We saw lots and lots of Japanese actors and amateurs. Some very moving, some incredible vulnerable and some like tough rocks in the ocean. Casting people is a delicate job, especially since a lot of them aren’t professionals.
In two hours we fly to Berlin, where we will cast tomorrow. At the table of the restaurant where we are eating now, we discuss our ‘catch’. Slowly the ground plan of people is developing.
