faroe islands 21

After two days on the ferry on the Atlantic Ocean, I’m back on the Faroe Islands for the second part of my research for a new novel (previous blogs). The first changes I experience are the light and the smell. In the winter it is dark and now the sun hardly goes down. Although… they expect a storm today and it’s cold. And there are plants and flowers growing now, of which some spread a lovely earthy smell I’ve never smelled before.

I’m invited to stay in the house of the famous Faroes writer Jens Pauli Heinesen. He himself doesn’t live in his house anymore, and the way everything is still there since the seventies, makes it like being in a museum, which is very inspiring. His daughter Elin Brimheim Heinesen just released a new cd album, Yndisløg. I’m going to listen to it on my way to the G-festival, a popular music festival where I’ll be the coming days.
