continuity

Adri’s seventeenth question: I heard you screaming: ‘Left! Right!’ What was that about?

Something that really drives me crazy is the ‘Continuity’. When we do a shot of 3 people in the sand, we need the same light on one face as on the other, so we turn people around all the time trying to perfect the scene. Each ‘take’ of the scene is displayed on the VT screen so we are able see what it will look like. Continuity is a big part of how a film is made, and we can not make mistakes. It is almost like mathematics. The Continuity Supervisor, the 1st AD, the D.O.P and myself were all trying to work out whether to shoot a little to the left, or a more to the right, to make sure we have the right angle. It felt like I was back in school doing maths.
